Vikings R.I.D.E. into Leadership: Davie SGA at Youth Leadership Day

At William R. Davie Middle STEM Academy, we believe leadership is not just something students learn—it’s something they experience. Recently, our Student Government Association (SGA) had the opportunity to attend Youth Leadership Day, and what they gained went far beyond the moment—it was transformational.

This experience was a powerful example of what happens when access meets opportunity.

Our Vikings didn’t just attend—they engaged, collaborated, and led. Throughout the day, students participated in activities and discussions designed to strengthen their leadership capacity, challenge their thinking, and amplify their voices. They worked alongside peers, shared ideas, and learned that leadership is not about being in charge—it’s about serving others and making an impact.

Leadership in Action: R.I.D.E.

At Davie, we define leadership through our R.I.D.E. framework—and our students embodied every aspect of it:

• Resilience – Students stepped outside of their comfort zones, embraced new challenges, and demonstrated confidence in unfamiliar spaces.
• Innovation – They explored new ideas, engaged in meaningful conversations, and thought critically about how they can lead differently in their school and community.
• Drive – Our Vikings showed focus, determination, and a commitment to growing as leaders throughout the experience.
• Empowerment – Most importantly, they used their voices to uplift one another, recognizing that leadership is about helping others rise.

The Power of Collaboration & Voice

One of the most impactful takeaways from the day was the power of collaboration and student voice. Our scholars learned that when leaders come together, share ideas, and support one another, they can create meaningful change.

They discovered that their voices matter—not just in the classroom, but in their school, their community, and beyond.

Through dialogue, teamwork, and reflection, our students were inspired to become leaders who:
